ABSTRACT: In this paper, we present statistical results from testing our precompensation algorithms with 20 human subjects. A factorial experiment was designed and tested to evaluate the significance that the method, icon size, and subject group have on the ability of users to identify icons. These results reinforce software and “artificial eye” test findings indicating that the methods used for precompensation provide a significant increase in retinal image quality for users that have visual aberrations present in the optical systems of their eyes. Significant interactions were also found that reveal circumstances under which the method may perform best.
